This Sumatran coffee is an estate-grown coffee from Aceh Province, Sumatra’s most noted province for wet-hulled profiled coffees.
Aceh (pronounced AH-CHEY) is the northernmost province in Sumatra and is considered to be the epicenter of one of the world’s most unique coffee terroirs. Central Sumatera Coffee (CSC) operates a 100-hectare estate in the Bener Meriah regency, where they can control the genetics, harvesting, and post-harvest techniques. The cultivar “abyssinia” is an arabica lineage coffee that traces first to Java, and then directly back to Ethiopia. Seeds were first brought by the Dutch to the island colony of Java in the 1928 from a few select mother trees in Ethiopia.
